Description
This lot consists of 50 rounds of .38 S&W smokeless centerfire ammunition manufactured by the Remington Arms-Union Metallic Cartridge Company. The cartridges are contained within a vintage two-piece cardboard box featuring brass cases and oxidized lead round-nose projectiles. The internal arrangement consists of 49 cartridges seated vertically in a staggered pattern with one additional cartridge resting horizontally on top. All markings are clearly visible, with the top label transcribing verbatim as 38 S. & W. SMOKELESS and 50 CENTRAL FIRE CARTRIDGES above an illustrated cartridge graphic. The lower portion of the label identifies the manufacturer as REMINGTON ARMS-UNION METALLIC CARTRIDGE CO. with additional text reading UNION METALLIC CARTRIDGE WORKS / BRIDGEPORT, CONN. U.S.A. and the circular REMINGTON UMC logo. Individual headstamps are marked REM-UMC at the top and 38 S&W at the bottom. The silver-toned primers are incised with a letter U mark.
Condition report:
The two-piece cardboard box is in fragile condition with significant staining, fading, and edge wear. The corners of the lid are frayed and several are split. The brass cartridge cases show a natural, dark tarnish from long-term storage. The lead bullets exhibit a heavy greyish oxidation across their surfaces. All 50 cartridges appear to be in live condition and are sold as vintage collectibles for display.
