Description
This Smith & Wesson Model 649 is a stainless steel J-frame revolver based on the distinctive Bodyguard configuration, characterized by its shrouded hammer design which allows for single-action cocking while maintaining a snag-free profile for concealed carry. Chambered in .38 S&W Special, the firearm features a 2-inch barrel with an integral ramp front sight and a fixed notch rear sight. The revolver is constructed of satin-finished stainless steel and is fitted with checkered walnut grips bearing silver-tone S&W medallions. Key markings include the model designation MOD. 649 and assembly number 16X44 stamped on the frame under the crane, while the serial number BAF5757 is located on the butt of the grip frame. Barrel markings specify SMITH & WESSON on the left and 38 S.&W. SPL. on the right. The right side of the frame displays the four-line address: MADE IN U.S.A. / MARCAS REGISTRADAS / SMITH & WESSON / SPRINGFIELD, MASS. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The revolver is in good overall condition, exhibiting minor surface scuffing and light scratches consistent with standard handling. The stainless steel finish shows carbon fouling on the cylinder faces and within the crane area. The checkered walnut grips remain attractive with well-defined checkering, though light verdigris is present on the medallions and the grip screw. The action appears to function correctly in both single and double action, although the firearm has not been function-tested with live ammunition.
