Description
This lot consists of a collection of 34 ammunition components for the .40-65 WCF caliber, comprised of 19 live handloaded cartridges and 15 empty brass casings. The items are housed in a green camouflage-patterned MTM molded plastic case featuring a comprehensive hand-written loading data sheet inside the lid. According to the provided information, these rounds were reformed from .45-70 parent cases, and the visible headstamps bear the verbatim markings R – P 45-70 GOVT. The internal load data indicates these were prepared for an 1885 Hi-Wall rifle equipped with a Tang sight, utilizing 270 grain Cast Bonus lead bullets, 65 grains of CleanShot powder, and Remington 9 1/2 primers. The loaded cartridges feature cast lead projectiles showing some natural surface aging, while the empty brass cases show standard signs of previous use and resizing. The total quantity consists of 19 live rounds and 15 empty brass casings of .40-65 WCF.
Condition report:
The ammunition and components appear to be in good overall condition. The live handloads show some minor surface oxidation or lead bloom on the cast projectiles, which is common for older lead bullets. The brass casings show light tarnishing and signs of prior use consistent with handloading practices. The MTM plastic storage box is intact with a functional latch and clear labeling. We have not function-tested this ammunition and it is sold as a collectible component lot.
