Description
This lot consists of 91 rounds of vintage .22 Long Rifle rimfire ammunition manufactured by the United States Cartridge Co. of New York. The cartridges feature copper-colored casings and lead round-nose bullets, housed in two original orange cardboard boxes featuring blue and black graphics. Verbatim markings on the packaging include US SELF-CLEANING LONG RIFLE and UNITED STATES CARTRIDGE CO. NEW YORK, N. Y. alongside the designation 50 .22 RIM FIRE. One side of the box provides technical information stating Self-Cleaning Cartridges will not rust, corrode or pit your rifle barrel. Before using them the first time, clean the bore with boiling water and dry thoroughly. After this no further care of the barrel is necessary so long as these cartridges are used exclusively. The cartridges themselves are headstamped with the US logo. One box is partially filled and contains a white foam spacer used to prevent the remaining rounds from shifting.
Condition report:
The ammunition exhibits significant age-related oxidation and patina, with several rounds showing heavy green verdigris on the lead bullets and casings. The cardboard boxes show moderate wear, including edge fraying, corner softening, surface staining, and minor tearing. The graphics remain legible despite some scuffing and discoloration from long-term storage.
