Description
This lot consists of three antique and vintage American padlocks and four associated keys. Two matching rectangular padlocks were manufactured by the Yale and Towne Manufacturing Company. These locks feature dark-finished steel bodies with a raised central rectangular border containing the word YALE in block letters. The brass shackles bear stamped markings; one side displays YALE & TOWNE MFG CO, while the reverse is stamped MADE IN USA. A circular stamp containing the characters 32G8 is visible on the base of one lock. These two padlocks are connected by a steel chain and include two flat steel keys attached to the shackle by a split ring. The third item is a heart-shaped padlock manufactured by the Wilson Bohannan Co. The body is constructed of iron or steel with a brass escutcheon or keyhole cover stamped BOHANNAN & CO. This lock includes one barrel-style key inserted into the mechanism and an additional separate barrel key on a ring.
Condition report:
The items exhibit an authentic aged patina. The heart-shaped Bohannan lock shows significant surface oxidation and rust across the body and shackle. The Yale locks demonstrate moderate wear to the body finish and typical tarnish on the brass shackles. All keys appear to be period-correct for their respective locks. The working condition of the internal mechanisms has not been tested.
