Description
This lot consists of 67 rounds of vintage Winchester centerfire smokeless ammunition housed in two original red two-piece cardboard boxes. The first box is labeled for .32 Smith & Wesson and was originally intended for 50 cartridges with 85 grain lead bullets. Markings on the top label include .32 SMITH & WESSON, CENTER FIRE, and 85 GRAIN LEAD BULLETS, while the bottom of the label indicates manufacture by the WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO., NEW HAVEN, CONN., U. S. A. The cartridges within this box feature headstamps reading W.R.A. CO. .32 S. & W. The second box is labeled for .32 Smith & Wesson Long, originally for 50 cartridges with 98 grain lead bullets. Its label prominently displays .32 SMITH & WESSON LONG and 98 GRAIN LEAD BULLETS, with the manufacturer identified as WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO., NEW HAVEN, CONN., U. S. A. Cartridges in this second box bear headstamps including W.R.A. CO. .32 S. & W. L. and W.R.A. CO. .32 S. & W. LONG. Both boxes include original white fiber packing material and show varying levels of age-appropriate wear. These boxes are partial and no longer contain their full original count of 50 rounds each, with the combined total of the lot being 67 rounds.
Condition report:
The ammunition boxes show significant shelf wear consistent with age, including scuffing, edge wear, and small tears. The .32 Smith & Wesson Long box exhibits heavier damage with extensive clear tape repairs across the top and sides. The cartridges show varying degrees of age-related oxidation on the lead bullets, ranging from dark gray to a white powdery patina. The brass cases exhibit tarnish and some verdigris. The primers appear to be original and intact; however, given the age of the ammunition, it is sold as collectible and no guarantee of functionality is provided.
