Gun Collectors Dream Auction #86 Collector Auction
Lot 149:
Sold for: $110
Description
This lot features a full brick of 500 Western Super-X .22 Short rimfire cartridges. These long-range cartridges are loaded with Lubaloy bullets that are plated by a patented process and finished with an invisible hard wax lubricant designed to prevent leading and prolong the life of the rifle bore. Manufactured by the Western Cartridge Company in East Alton, Illinois, while operating as a division of Olin Industries, Inc., these rounds are loaded with double action smokeless powder and non-corrosive priming. Verbatim markings on the packaging include the Western trademark, Super-X 22 SHORT, LONG RANGE—Lubaloy BULLET, RIM FIRE CARTRIDGES, and EXTRA CLEAN—WAX COATED. Additional text on the panels specifies that these cartridges are loaded to increased velocity and pressure and should be used only in arms in good condition designed for such loads. The manufacturer information is transcribed as Western Cartridge Co., East Alton, Ill., U. S. A., Division of Olin Industries, Inc. One end panel is marked with the product code SX22S. The brick appears to contain its original complement of ten 50-round individual boxes within the master cardboard container.
Condition report:
The outer cardboard brick container is in good overall condition, showing typical signs of age-related wear including some light surface staining and minor crushing to the corners. The graphics and text remain sharp and highly legible. The entire brick is currently sealed in a protective clear plastic shrink-wrap, which has preserved the integrity of the cardboard and prevented further edge wear. The individual cartridges have not been removed or inspected but are expected to be in a condition consistent with the well-preserved exterior packaging.
