Description
This Winchester Model 1890 is a pump action repeating rifle chambered in .22 Short and configured with a 24 inch octagonal barrel and a full length tubular magazine. The metal surfaces exhibit a heavily worn finish that has transitioned into an overall brown patina with visible surface oxidation and scattered pitting present on both the receiver and barrel. The furniture consists of a walnut buttstock paired with a grooved wooden slide handle, both of which show significant wear with numerous scratches and dings consistent with age and use. Sighting is provided by a fixed front blade sight and an adjustable rear elevator sight. This takedown model includes the characteristic large thumb screw on the left side of the frame and a crescent metal buttplate. Key markings include the barrel address MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. PAT. JUNE 26.88. DEC. 6. 92. NOV. 27. 06. MAY 30. 1911. -MOD. 1890- .22 SHORT. The upper tang is marked TRADE MARK WINCHESTER REG. U.S. PAT. OFF. & FGN. and circular WP proof marks are visible on the top of the barrel and receiver. Matching serial numbers 642659 are located on the lower tang and the underside of the receiver, the latter featuring an A suffix. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The metal surfaces show a thick brown patina throughout with areas of active surface oxidation and scattered pitting, most notable on the receiver and the forward portion of the barrel. The walnut furniture is in fair condition with numerous deep scratches, compressions, and handling marks, though it remains structurally intact. The crescent buttplate shows finish loss and oxidation matching the receiver. The action appears to function correctly, though the rifle has not been function tested or test fired. The bore was not inspected.
