Description
This lot consists of 45 rounds of .38 Smith & Wesson (.38 S.& W.) centerfire cartridges manufactured by The Peters Cartridge Co. The ammunition is loaded with King’s Semi-Smokeless powder, as specified on the manufacturer’s label, and features lead round-nose projectiles. The cartridges are housed in a two-piece green and red cardboard box cataloged as No. 3821. Key markings on the packaging include .38 S.& W. C.F. CARTRIDGES, SEMI-SMOKELESS POWDER, FOR .38 SMITH & WESSON AND OTHER ARMS, THE PETERS CARTRIDGE CO., CINCINNATI, O., U.S.A., and the code 47 C. The side label is marked PETERS No. 3821, C.F. SEMI-SMOKELESS, and .38 S.& W. Individual cartridges are headstamped PETERS .38 S.& W. The bottom label features a manufacturer guarantee and lists compatibility for Smith & Wesson, Colt New Police, H. & R., H. & A., and Iver-Johnson revolvers. Condition report:
The two-piece cardboard box exhibits moderate to heavy wear consistent with age, including edge fraying, surface soiling, and several applications of clear adhesive tape for repair. The inner tray contains 45 cartridges with a paper wad used to fill the remaining void. The lead bullets show common oxidation and the brass cases exhibit various levels of tarnish and patina. No significant corrosion is noted on the primers. The cartridges appear live but are sold for their historical and collectible value only.
