Gun Collectors Dream Auction #86 Collector Auction
Lot 1523:
Description
A pair of vintage needlepoint panels depicting figures in American Civil War-style military uniforms, executed with multicolored threads on a woven textile support. One panel illustrates an infantryman in a tan and grey tunic with blue trousers and tall black boots, standing at rest while holding a rifle. The second panel portrays an officer or artilleryman in a brown overcoat with a red lining, wearing a kepi and a sword, positioned in front of a large cannon wheel. Both figures are rendered in a traditional needlework style against a neutral light-colored background. The pieces are housed in matching molded frames with a silver-toned finish and a greenish-blue wash. The reverse of each frame features a paper dust cover with a blue foil label for J. F. Thomas Co. of VA., located at 5803 Leesburg Pike, Bailey’s Crossroads, VA. One frame includes a white hanging tag marked 4539Z.
Condition report:
The needlepoint panels appear to be in good overall condition with some light, age-appropriate discoloration. The frames show minor surface wear and small scuffs to the finish. The paper backing on the verso of both frames exhibits light tearing, creasing, and adhesive residue.
