Description
A lot of vintage Western Super-X .22 Long Rifle rimfire ammunition totaling 500 rounds, housed in ten individual 50-round cardboard boxes. These cartridges are designed for long range use and feature Lubaloy copper-plated bullets. Prominent markings on the yellow, blue, and red packaging include Western Super-X, long range, .22 LONG RIFLE, and EXTRA CLEAN. Some boxes are further marked WAX COATED, while the reverse panels specify the use of Double Action Smokeless Powder and bullets plated with Lubaloy lubricating alloy by a patented process. Box end flaps display the product codes SX22LR and K1225R. The individual cartridges exhibit both brass and nickel-plated cases with a headstamp consisting of a stylized X within a diamond border containing the letters S, U, P, E, R. The collection comprises various iterations of Super-X packaging characteristic of mid-20th-century production.
Condition report:
The collection is in overall good vintage condition, though the cardboard boxes show varying degrees of shelf wear including edge fraying, corner crushing, and surface soiling. Several boxes have been opened, and at least two boxes are outer sleeves without inner trays. The ammunition itself remains in good condition for its age; the Lubaloy plated bullets show some surface oxidation and white lead bloom, and the cases display light tarnish. The rounds appear to be live and unspent.
