Description
A vintage natural sharpening stone and its original leather protective pouch, manufactured by W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Co. of Bradford, Pennsylvania. The stone is a rectangular block of natural abrasive material, consistent in appearance with an Arkansas oilstone used for honing pocket knives. The accompanying slipcase is constructed of brown top-grain leather featuring perimeter stitching. The front of the leather pouch is heat-stamped with the stylized Case XX logo, showing the character C with a long tail looping under the name and two capital Xs centered beneath, accompanied by a registered trademark symbol.
Condition report:
The sharpening stone is structurally complete without cracks or large chips, though both primary faces exhibit significant dark gray metal residue and surface discoloration from previous sharpening use. The leather slipcase shows visible wear consistent with age and utility, including darkening of the hide, minor surface scuffs, and softening, while the stitching remains intact.
