Description
This is a top-break, double-action revolver chambered in .38 S&W, specifically identified as a Smith & Wesson .38 Double Action 4th Model. The firearm features a five-shot cylinder and a barrel with a top rib and fixed sights. The barrel measures approximately 3.25 inches. The metal surfaces retain only trace amounts of the original blued finish, which is currently flaking and heavily worn. The frame and barrel are fitted with checkered black hard rubber grips featuring the circular Smith & Wesson monogram logo. Prominent markings on the top of the barrel rib are partially legible and specify SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS U.S.A. PAT’D JAN 24 65 JULY 11 65 AUG 24 69 JAN 19 75 APR 20 75 DEC 18 77. The serial number 377734 is stamped on the butt of the grip frame. Based on the serial number range, this specimen was manufactured between 1891 and 1895. We have not function-tested this firearm. Condition report:
The overall condition is poor to fair. The original blued finish is heavily worn and flaking, with significant surface oxidation and visible pitting across nearly all metal surfaces, including the barrel, cylinder, and frame. The bore condition has not been verified but is expected to be dark with pitting consistent with the exterior. The checkered hard rubber grips show moderate wear, and there is a visible hairline crack on the bottom edge of the left grip panel. The action appears complete and indicates the cylinder rotates and the hammer cocks, though mechanical reliability is not guaranteed.
