Description

This single-shot falling-block rifle is a modern Italian reproduction of the iconic Sharps Model 1874, chambered for the .45-70 Government cartridge. It features a heavy octagonal barrel approximately 29 inches in length with a deep blued finish. The receiver, hammer, lever, and crescent buttplate exhibit vibrant color case-hardening. The furniture consists of a checkered walnut stock and a matching forend with a Schnabel-style tip. Sights include a fixed blade front sight and a flip-up ladder-style rear sight graduated for long-range target shooting. Key markings include the model designation Mod. 1874 and DTG WHSL JEFF. IN. on the top of the barrel, with I.A.B. Gardone V.T. -made in Italy- on the left flat and CAL. 45/70 U.S. GOV. on the right flat. The serial number 51942 is clearly stamped on the upper tang behind the hammer. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.

Condition report:

The rifle is in excellent overall condition, retaining nearly all of its original finishes. The color case-hardening is bright and vivid across the receiver and related components. The barrel bluing is consistent and deep with only negligible handling marks. The walnut stock and forend are very well-preserved, showing crisp checkering and an attractive wood grain with minimal surface dings. The bore was not inspected but the overall maintenance of the piece suggests it remains in excellent state. The falling-block action and hammer appear to function correctly and lock up tightly.
