Description

This lot consists of 50 rounds of 22 caliber Long Rifle ammunition manufactured by the Western Cartridge Company in East Alton, Illinois. The cartridges are contained within a two-piece cardboard box featuring a green, black, and orange label. Verbatim markings on the top label include 50 RIM FIRE CARTRIDGES 50, 22 CAL. LESMOK, and LONG RIFLE POWDER. The center features the Western script inside an orange diamond logo above the text TRADE MARK. The lower portion specifies MFG BY WESTERN CARTRIDGE COMPANY EAST ALTON, ILL. U.S.A. The end panels are labeled 50 22 LONG RIFLE 50 and RIM FIRE CARTRIDGES with the Western diamond logo. The cartridges feature copper-colored cases and lead round-nose bullets. Each rim is marked with an embossed diamond headstamp. The use of Lesmok powder, a semi-smokeless propellant, characterizes this as production from the first half of the 20th century.

Condition report:

The original two-piece cardboard box exhibits moderate to heavy condition wear, including fraying at the corners, edge rubbing, and localized paper loss on the side and top panels. The 50 cartridges show surface tarnishing to the copper-colored cases and visible white oxidation and pitting on the lead bullets consistent with long-term storage and age. The ammunition appears to be in its original configuration. We have not function tested this vintage ammunition and it is sold as a collectible item.
