Description
This lot consists of 62 rounds of .32 S&W caliber centerfire ammunition divided between two vintage period boxes. The first is a Winchester Repeating Arms Co. box from New Haven, Conn., featuring a green label illustrated with a Smith & Wesson top-break revolver and marked 50 CARTRIDGES SOLID HEAD. This box contains 48 cartridges with lead round-nose bullets; the majority of the headstamps are marked W.R.A. Co. .32 S. & W., with at least one round bearing a REM-UMC .32 S&W headstamp. The second container is a United States Cartridge Company box from Lowell, Mass., labeled as adapted to S. & W. 32 AUTOMATIC EJECTING REVOLVERS, which contains 14 loose cartridges of the same caliber. Verbatim markings on the Winchester box include Expressly for Smith & Wesson 32 Caliber Center Fire Revolver and MANUFACTURED BY THE Winchester Repeating Arms Co., NEW HAVEN, CONN., U. S. A. The United States Cartridge Company box displays MANUFACTURED BY THE UNITED STATES CARTRIDGE COMPANY LOWELL, MASS. U. S. A. and 50 32 Cal. Central Fire CARTRIDGES. A side label on the green box states These Cartridges are made expressly for the .32 Calbre Smith & Wesson Revolver, and we recommend them for use in this arm.
Condition report:
The ammunition is in aged condition, with the lead bullets exhibiting a significant white oxidation bloom and the brass cases showing varying degrees of tarnish and verdigris. The cartridges appear to be live and were not tested for functionality. Both cardboard boxes show heavy wear consistent with age, including staining, edge fraying, corner tears, and some old adhesive tape repairs. The labels remain mostly legible despite the surface wear and discoloration.
