Description
This lot consists of 100 rounds of .25 caliber ammunition housed in two vintage two-piece cardboard boxes. The first box is labeled for The Union Metallic Cartridge Co of Bridgeport, Connecticut, and contains 50 rounds of .25 Automatic Pistol Smokeless ammunition with 50-grain metal-cased bullets. Visual inspection of this box reveals a variety of headstamps including REM-UMC 25 AUTO, REM-UMC 6.35, W.R.A. CO. .25 AUTO, and FRONTIER .25 AUTO, with several rounds featuring red primer sealant. The second box, identified by its blue and red plaid patterned paper wrap, is produced by the Remington Arms-Union Metallic Cartridge Co for .25 Automatic Colt Smokeless cartridges. This box contains 50 rounds that primarily display REM-UMC headstamps and are fitted with U marked primers. Verbatim markings on the primary labels include .25 AUTOMATIC PISTOL SMOKELESS 50 CENTRAL FIRE CARTRIDGES and .25 AUTOMATIC COLT SMOKELESS 50 CENTRAL FIRE CARTRIDGES along with the manufacturer names and Bridgeport, Connecticut addresses. The cartridges are configured with standard copper or cupronickel-jacketed metal-cased bullets consistent with period production.
Condition report:
The cardboard boxes exhibit significant age-related wear, including surface staining, edge fraying, and minor paper loss. The plaid-wrapped Remington-UMC box shows some corner separation and surface soiling. The ammunition cases display varying degrees of patina, tarnish, and mild oxidation typical of vintage cartridges. Primers remain seated and bullets appear stable within the cases. The ammunition appears to be in live condition, though we have not function-tested these rounds.
