Description
This Winchester Model 1894 lever-action rifle is chambered for the .25-35 W.C.F. cartridge and is configured with a 20-inch round barrel and a full-length tubular magazine. The metal components exhibit a blued finish, while the furniture consists of a plain walnut straight-grip stock and a matching walnut forearm secured by a single barrel band. Key markings include the manufacturer address on the barrel, MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. PATENTED AUGUST 21. 1894. followed by NICKEL STEEL BARREL ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER and the caliber designation 25-35 W.C.F. The serial number 726894 is stamped on the underside of the receiver, and intertwined WP Winchester proof marks are present on the top of the barrel and the forward edge of the receiver. The rifle is equipped with a post front sight, a barrel-mounted adjustable rear notch sight, and an adjustable tang-mounted aperture peep sight. The butt is finished with a checkered steel buttplate. Condition report:
The blued finish on the barrel and receiver remains largely intact, showing thinning on the high edges, the lever, and the barrel band, along with scattered minor surface scratches. The walnut stock and forearm show heavy field wear, characterized by numerous deep dings, scratches, and abrasions throughout, particularly on the buttstock, though they remain structurally sound. The bore is bright with well-defined rifling. The lever action cycles smoothly and the trigger and hammer mechanisms appear to function correctly, though the firearm has not been live-fire tested. The tang-mounted aperture sight is in good working order.
