Description
This C.G. Haenel single shot Schuetzen target rifle is built on a Martini-style falling block lever action. The firearm features a heavy octagonal barrel finished in a deep blue, paired with a receiver and operating lever that display a mottled case-hardened finish. The specialized Schuetzen-style target stock is crafted from polished wood and includes a prominent ergonomic cheekpiece, a dedicated thumb rest, fine checkering on the grip and forend, and a metal hook-style buttplate. Precision sighting is provided by a tang-mounted aperture peep sight with a large adjustable disk and a globe-style front sight. Key markings include the numbers 378 stamped on the top of the breech block and an interlaced WW in a circular stamp on the right side of the block. The serial number 584 is stamped on the left side of the barrel just above the forend and repeated on the underside of the stock wrist. A large incised letter R is present on the right side of the wooden forend. The action appears to function correctly, though we have not function-tested this firearm. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The rifle is in excellent condition, retaining the vast majority of its original blued and case-hardened finishes. The barrel finish is deep and consistent with minimal thinning at the edges of the octagonal profile. The receiver\'s case colors are distinct and vibrant. The wood stock is well-preserved with a high-gloss polish, showing minor handling marks and sharp checkering. The bore appears bright with strong rifling. All mechanical components, including the sights and falling block action, appear to be in good working order.
