Description
This is a German-manufactured side-by-side hammer shotgun featuring a break-action design and a double-trigger configuration. The firearm utilizes an under-lever opening mechanism positioned below the forend. The smoothbore barrels are fitted with a raised central rib and a brass bead front sight. Ornate scroll and floral engraving adorns the side lock plates, receiver, hammers, and trigger guard. Verbatim markings on the top rib specify A. ARTMANN LANGENSALZA indicating its origin in Langensalza, Germany. The walnut stock and forend exhibit a straight-grain pattern and the shotgun is completed with a steel buttplate. Technical specifications such as barrel length were not measured as no scale was provided in the visual data. Condition report:
The metal surfaces exhibit a dark, aged patina with significant thinning of the original finish and scattered areas of surface pitting on the barrels. The lock work is decorated with engraving that remains visible but shows wear from age. The wooden components show substantial field use, including various scratches, dings, and prominent longitudinal cracks in the forend wood. The action has not been function-tested with live ammunition, though the hammers and triggers appear to operate mechanically. The bores show signs of heavy use and oxidation. We have not function-tested this firearm.
