Description
This lot features a disassembled Lyman Great Plains Rifle kit chambered in .54 caliber, intended for assembly into a traditional muzzleloading percussion rifle. The kit includes an octagonal steel barrel with a raw factory finish and an unfinished walnut stock featuring a carved cheekpiece and a steel crescent buttplate. The metal furniture is in the white, designed to be finished by the builder. Transcribed barrel markings include LYMAN – MIDDLETOWN, CT USA, GREAT PLAINS RIFLE .54, CAL.54, and .. MADE IN ITALY .. BLACK POWDER ONLY. The barrel also bears the manufacturer name INVESTARM SPA, 25060 MARCHENO ITALY and the serial number A 572416. Components include a color case-hardened percussion lock, a double-set trigger assembly, a wooden ramrod with brass tips, and a variety of hardware stored in a plastic container. A sealed three-pack of Lyman stainless steel nipples is also included. The lot is presented in its original orange Lyman-branded box. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The kit is in an unfinished and disassembled state. The octagonal barrel shows a raw steel finish with scattered surface oxidation and light storage wear throughout. The bore appears bright with sharp rifling. The walnut stock is unfinished and shows minor handling dings but remains free of cracks or structural damage. The percussion lock retains vibrant color case-hardening. All included small parts and hardware appear to be in good condition, though the kit has not been inventoried against a factory manifest or function-tested.
