Description
This Lyman No. 103 micrometer-adjustable tang peep sight is a precision-engineered sighting accessory intended for mounting on the tang of vintage rifles to provide fine adjustments for long-range shooting. The unit is constructed of blued steel and features a vertical post with a knurled elevation sleeve graduated with numerical markings including 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8. Windage is controlled via a knurled knob on the base assembly, which is graduated with scales marked 0, 2, and 4 for precise lateral adjustment. A large, knurled aperture disc is threaded into the top of the sight post, offering a clear sight picture. The mounting base is contoured for a tang fit and features two screw holes for secure attachment. Verbatim markings include the name LYMAN stamped on the upper surface of the base and the words PATENT PENDING stamped on the underside of the folding hinge assembly. The item shows some minor thinning of the blued finish and light handling wear but appears to be in functional condition with legible markings. Condition report:
The sight is in good condition, retaining a significant portion of its original blued finish with minor thinning and silvering on the high points and knurled edges. The knurling on the elevation sleeve, windage knob, and aperture disc remains sharp and well-defined. All adjustment mechanisms for windage and elevation appear to function correctly with smooth movement. Stamped markings and numerical graduations are crisp and easily legible. There is no evidence of significant rust, pitting, or mechanical damage.
