Description
This lot consists of five law enforcement badges designed in the style of the 19th-century American West and early 20th-century railroad security. The group includes three five-pointed star badges with ball-tipped points and two shield-shaped badges. The star-shaped badges are constructed from mixed base metals with engraved detailing. One star features the text U.S. Marshal surrounded by scrollwork. A second star is engraved for the Lincoln County Sheriff with an ornate floral background. The third star is engraved for a Captain of the Arizona Rangers with fine foliate motifs. The two matching shield-shaped badges are stamped Union Pacific Railroad Police with double-outline block letters. All badges feature pin-back assemblies on the reverse; the star badges utilize horizontal pins while the shield badges utilize vertical pins. There are no visible maker marks, hallmarks, or signatures present on any of the pieces.
Condition report:
All five badges exhibit significant surface tarnish, oxidation, and a dark patina throughout. Surface wear and minor pitting are visible on the metal faces. The reverse of one railroad shield badge displays adhesive or solder residue. The pin assemblies are intact but show age-related wear and discoloration.
