Description
A collection of antique black powder horns of various configurations. Each item is constructed from natural bovine horn with wooden and metal components. The largest horn features a light yellowish-tan body with a dark-tapered spout including a stopper and a dark wooden base plug with a metal carry loop. A second horn has a darker, translucent patina, a wooden base plug with a metal loop, and an attached dark leather or fiber carry strap. The third horn consists of a dark horn body transitioning to a lighter base with a wooden plug. The fourth horn is a medium-sized example in a light tan color, missing its base plug and featuring faint, illegible incised markings that appear to be decorative or cartographic in nature. There are no visible maker marks or serial numbers on any of the items.
Condition report:
Overall condition ranges from fair to good, with visible wear, scratches, and some material loss consistent with age and use. The largest horn shows significant surface loss and pitting near the wide end. One horn is missing its wooden base plug. Carry straps show fraying and age-related wear. Interiors are not visible and have not been inspected.
