Description
A vintage James Heddon’s Sons split-bamboo fly fishing rod set, model number 20, also titled Bill Stanley’s Favorite. The rod is constructed from split Tonkin bamboo and features a 2F ferrule size. The bamboo is inscribed with the maker name Heddon, the model title, and recommended line weights specified as HDH or E. The configuration includes a butt section with a cork grip and a brown marbleized reel seat, a middle section, and two tip sections. The sections feature dark red silk wraps and metal guides. The set is accompanied by its original aluminum storage tube with a partial graphic decal from Dowagiac, Michigan, and a yellow fabric rod sock with a manufacturer’s label identifying it as a Genuine Heddon Split-Bamboo Rod.
Length: 8.5 feet.
Condition report:
The rod is in good vintage condition. The bamboo sections show minor surface wear and varnish scuffs consistent with age and field use. The cork handle displays typical soiling. Silk wraps are intact. The aluminum storage tube shows significant oxidation and approximately fifty percent loss to the original graphic labeling. The fabric rod sock is soiled with a frayed label. Both tip sections are full length and matching.
