Description
This auction lot comprises 69 rounds of vintage Remington Kleanbore .25-20 Winchester centerfire ammunition housed in two original cardboard boxes. The first box is designated for 86 grain lead bullets and contains centerfire smokeless cartridges with headstamps transcribed verbatim as REM-UMC 25-20. Prominent markings on the green and red packaging include Remington, KLEANBORE, 25-20 WINCHESTER, 86 GRAIN LEAD BULLET, 50 CENTER FIRE SMOKELESS CARTRIDGES, and the vertical number 1325. The second box is a Hi-Speed variant designed for mushroom bullets and features markings including Remington, KLEANBORE, .25-20 WINCHESTER, Hi-Speed, GRAIN MUSHROOM BULLET, a red DUPONT logo, and the vertical code R80H. This second container includes copper-jacketed soft point cartridges mixed with original shredded paper packing material. While both boxes were originally intended to hold 50 rounds each, this lot contains a verified total of 69 rounds. The lot represents a significant grouping of mid-20th-century sporting ammunition from a major American manufacturer.
Condition report:
Both boxes exhibit heavy age-related wear, including frayed edges, tearing, surface loss, staining, and old tape residue. The cartridges show various stages of aging; the brass cases exhibit some tarnish and oxidation, while the exposed lead bullets in the first box show characteristic gray oxidation. The jacketed bullets in the second box remain mostly bright with minor surface discoloration. The ammunition is sold as a collectible item and has not been tested for functionality.
