Description
This lot consists of a collection of 227 rounds of Western brand .22 Long Rifle rimfire ammunition, distributed across five vintage cardboard boxes. The assembly features a variety of cartridge types as evidenced by internal inspections, including lead round-nose bullets with brass casings, copper-plated bullets with brass casings, and lead bullets with copper casings. Verbatim markings on the boxes include Western Rim Fire Cartridges, .22 Long Rifle, Non-Corrosive Priming–Smokeless Powder, and 40 Grain Lead Lubricated Bullet. The cartridges themselves display varying headstamps, including the traditional Western diamond logo and the Super-X stylized X overlaid with a horizontal bar containing the word SUPER. The packaging reflects the manufacturing specifications for 40-grain lead lubricated bullets, though the present inventory includes copper-plated variants consistent with period Super-X loads. The cardboard boxes exhibit significant characteristic wear from age and storage.
Condition report:
The cardboard boxes show significant age-related wear, including surface soiling, edge fraying, corner crushing, and structural tears to the flaps. The ammunition cartridges exhibit varying degrees of surface tarnish and oxidation on the brass and copper casings. The lead bullets show surface dulling and some evidence of dried lubricant or light surface corrosion. The copper-plated bullets show minor surface oxidation. The ammunition appears to be in live condition, though we have not function-tested these vintage rounds.
