Description
This Benjamin Franklin Model 700 is a pump-action pneumatic repeater air rifle chambered for .175 caliber BBs. It features an approximately 20-inch barrel and utilizes a front-mounted pump rod system with a circular pull-knob for charging the pneumatic reservoir. The rifle is constructed with a nickel-plated finish over brass components, which is currently showing significant wear. The furniture consists of a one-piece hardwood stock with a straight comb and a simple contoured grip. Sighting is provided by a fixed front post and a notched rear iron sight. Prominent markings include the designation BENJAMIN FRANKLIN on the left side of the receiver and the instruction COCK HAMMER TO RELEASE SAFETY on the right side. The rear receiver cap is embossed with the manufacturer details BENJAMIN AIR RIFLE CO ST LOUIS USA along with NO 700, PATENTED, and 25 SHOT REPEATER. Additional markings near the muzzle on the reservoir tube read AIR HOLE DONT OIL. The pump and trigger mechanisms appear to function, though we have not function-tested this air rifle for pressure retention or projectile velocity. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The metal finish is in fair condition, exhibiting heavy wear to the nickel plating with substantial portions of the underlying brass showing through on the barrel, reservoir, and receiver. There are scattered light scratches and minor surface oxidation present. The hardwood stock shows moderate to heavy wear characterized by numerous dings, surface scratches, and areas of finish loss, though it remains structurally intact without visible cracks. The action appears to function mechanically, but the pneumatic seals have not been tested and may require maintenance. The bore is generally clean with no major obstructions visible.
