Description
A lot of 150 rounds of vintage .22 caliber rimfire ammunition manufactured by the United States Cartridge Company of Lowell, Massachusetts. This collection is comprised of three 50-round boxes, including one box of .22 Winchester Self-Cleaning cartridges and two boxes of .22 NRA Long Rifle Lesmok cartridges with hollow point projectiles. The packaging features the company trademark US logo within a blue oval on an orange and blue background. Verbatim markings on the boxes include United States Cartridge Co., Lowell, Mass., Made in U.S.A., 50 .22 Rim Fire Self-Cleaning Winchester, and 50 .22 Calibre Long Rifle Rim Fire. The cartridges are constructed with copper cases and lead bullets, with each case rim featuring a stamped US headstamp. The two .22 NRA boxes are noted as containing Lesmok powder, a semi-smokeless propellant utilized during the early 20th century. The individual boxes show varying degrees of shelf wear, including staining and scuffing to the lithographed cardboard.
Condition report:
The cardboard packaging is in fair condition, exhibiting shelf wear, staining, and some edge tearing. The ammunition within the boxes shows significant aging, with heavy white lead oxidation or bloom present on the projectiles and tarnish with spots of corrosion on the copper cases. One of the NRA boxes is missing its internal tray and is present as an outer sleeve. The ammunition is sold as a historical collectible and has not been tested for discharge.
