Description
This modern replica rifle is a Harrington & Richardson reproduction of the Springfield Model 1873 Officer’s Model, chambered in .45-70 Government and designed as a high-grade sporting variant of the classic service arm. The firearm features a 26-inch blued barrel and a single-shot trapdoor action. The metalwork is highly finished, with the breechblock, receiver, lock plate, hammer, trigger guard, barrel band, and buttplate displaying vivid case-hardened colors and extensive scroll engraving. The stock is crafted from walnut with a straight grip and fine checkering, complemented by a pewter-style forend tip. For precision, the rifle is equipped with a front blade sight and an adjustable tang-mounted peep sight. A wooden ramrod with metal tips is held under the barrel by a single band and ferrule. Verbatim markings include HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON, INC. WORCESTER, MASS. MADE IN U.S.A. on the barrel top, while the left side is stamped U.S. MODEL 1873 CAL. 45-70 GOVT. followed by a P proof. The lock plate is marked with an eagle motif and U.S. SPRINGFIELD, and the breechblock is stamped U S MODEL 1873. The serial number 1087 is clearly visible on the receiver. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The rifle is in excellent condition, with the blued and case-hardened surfaces retaining nearly all of their original finishes. The scroll engraving and stamped markings remain sharp and well-defined. The walnut stock is well-preserved with crisp checkering and only the slightest signs of handling. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. The trapdoor action and hammer appear to function correctly, though we have not function-tested this firearm.
