Description
This lot features a total of 150 rounds of Peters High Velocity .22 W.R.F. (Remington Special) ammunition, packaged in three separate cardboard boxes of 50 cartridges each. Produced by the Peters Cartridge Division of Remington Arms Co., Inc., these cartridges are designed for rimfire rifles chambered in .22 Winchester Rimfire or .22 Remington Special. The box graphics showcase the classic blue, red, and white color scheme and prominently display the DuPont oval logo. Transcription of the markings on the face of the boxes includes PETERS in stylized yellow lettering above a red and white banner reading HIGH VELOCITY, followed by 22 W. R. F. (REM. SPL.), INSIDE LUBRICATED, 50 RIM FIRE CARTRIDGES, and MADE IN U. S. A. The side panels and end flaps are marked with Peters HV and caliber information. Within the lot, two boxes contain cartridges with nickel-plated cases, while the third box contains traditional brass-cased ammunition. Every cartridge is headstamped with PETERS over HV and is fitted with a lubricated lead bullet. These items represent a notable example of mid-20th-century American commercial ammunition production.
Condition report:
The three original cardboard boxes exhibit moderate shelf wear, including fraying at the corners, surface scuffing, and minor staining consistent with age and long-term storage, though they remain structurally sound. The ammunition appears to be in live condition. The nickel-plated and brass cases show mild surface tarnishing but are free of heavy corrosion. The lead bullets display visible surface oxidation and blooming typical for vintage rimfire ammunition of this period.
