Description
A vintage J.C. Higgins Life-Like Mallard Drake duck decoy, manufactured for Sears, Roebuck and Co. The decoy is constructed from a molded composition material with a textured surface designed to resemble feathering. The painted decoration depicts a male mallard with a green head featuring a metallic finish, a white neck ring, and a reddish-brown breast. The body is rendered in shades of gray and black with blue wing patches, known as speculums, accented by white bars. The decoy includes inset dark eyes and a recessed area on the underside featuring an eyelet with a small segment of attached green wire. The base is embossed with the maker and brand marks: J C Higgins, LIFE-LIKE DECOY, and SEARS ROEBUCK AND CO.
Condition report:
This decoy shows signs of significant field use and age. Observable condition includes widespread surface wear, scuffs, and paint loss, particularly on the head, bill, and tail sections. There are minor chips and abrasions to the composition material consistent with handling and storage.
