Description
This lot consists of two vintage leather holsters designed for single-action revolvers, both featuring heavy metal stud embellishments in a Western frontier style. The first holster is a California-pattern or Slim Jim style constructed from dark brown to blackened heavy-weight leather. This piece is formed from a single piece of leather with a belt loop created by slits in the backing. It is decorated with numerous round silver-toned metal studs along the outer edges, the belt loop, and in a cluster on the main body. The second holster is a Mexican Loop style featuring a wide reddish-brown leather backplate or skirt. The holster pouch is secured to the skirt by passing through two horizontal slits. This holster is embellished with silver-toned metal studs forming a decorative border around the skirt and a rectangular grid pattern on the securing loop. It features visible contrast stitching along the lower pouch edge and a small leather tie at the muzzle. No maker’s marks or stamps are visible on either item.
Condition report:
Both items are in as-found vintage condition with significant age-appropriate wear. The leather on both holsters shows surface crazing, darkening from handling, and stiffening. Prominent verdigris is present around the metal studs on both pieces, most notably on the darker Slim Jim style holster. General surface scuffing and typical age-related drying are evident throughout both pieces.
