Description
This is a Savage Arms Model 1903 slide-action rifle chambered for .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle. The rifle features a classic octagonal barrel and a signature detachable box magazine, distinguishing it from the later tubular-fed models. The metal surfaces have aged to a deep brown patina throughout the receiver and barrel. It is equipped with a ribbed walnut pump forend and a straight-comb walnut buttstock terminating in a steel buttplate bearing a circular logo. Sighting is provided by a fixed front post and an adjustable rear notch sight. Key markings include the manufacturer and patent info on the barrel top flat transcribed as MANUFACTURED BY SAVAGE ARMS CO UTICA. N.Y. U.S.A. PAT. DEC. 25. 1906. with the caliber designated as .22 S. L. & L.R. near the breech. The underside of the receiver is stamped with the serial number 64.825. The included detachable box magazine is stamped 22 S. L. & L.R. SAVAGE ARMS COMPANY UTICA, N.Y. and the buttplate is embossed with THE SAVAGE QUALITY trademark. One magazine is included with this lot. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The rifle is in well-used condition, with the original finish having largely turned to a dark brown patina. There is visible surface pitting and oxidation on the receiver and barrel flats. The walnut stock and forend exhibit numerous dings, scratches, and areas of worn finish consistent with age and field use, though they remain structurally sound. The bore is dark with visible rifling and some internal frosting. The slide action appears to function correctly and locks up as intended, though we have not function-tested this firearm with live ammunition. The magazine shows surface oxidation but maintains good spring tension.
