Description
This lot comprises 100 rounds of antique .38 caliber short rimfire blank ammunition manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company of New Haven, Connecticut. These Extra Loud cartridges are housed in two original two-piece cardboard boxes. The cartridges feature copper cases with a headstamp consisting of a single letter H and are closed with paper wads. Box markings are transcribed verbatim as 50 WINCHESTER BLANK CARTRIDGES. Extra Loud. .38 Caliber Short Rim Fire. and 50 .38 Short Rim Fire BLANK CARTRIDGES. Extra Loud. Manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company, NEW HAVEN, CONN., U. S. A. One box lid interior includes a printed liability disclaimer and the script signature of the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. These blanks were designed for use in revolvers and rifles to provide a loud report for signaling, training, or theatrical purposes. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The copper cartridge cases exhibit a natural aged patina with scattered spots of oxidation and minor verdigris. The paper wads appear intact on the visible rounds. The cardboard boxes show heavy age-related wear including surface staining, abrasions, edge fraying, and some small tears. One lid has split corners and more pronounced staining than the other. The cartridges appear to be in live condition; however, we have not function-tested this ammunition and it is sold for collectible display purposes only.
