Description
Attributed to Lyman, this is a No. 103 micrometer windage tang sight, a high-precision aperture sight commonly utilized on late 19th and early 20th-century target and sporting rifles. The sight is constructed of steel with a hinged, folding base designed for mounting to a rifle tang with two screws. It features a micrometer elevation system adjusted via a large knurled sleeve bearing stamped numerical markings including 0, 2, 4, 6, and 1/4. Windage adjustment is facilitated by a side-mounted knurled knob marked with numbers 6 and 8, corresponding to a graduated index scale on the sight base. The unit is topped with a circular aperture eyepiece. The base is contoured to accommodate the rounded tang of a rifle receiver.
Condition report:
The sight exhibits a dark, aged patina with overall finish wear and thinning of the original bluing. Light surface oxidation and minor pitting are present across the steel surfaces. The knurling on the adjustment sleeve and windage knob remains well-defined. Mechanical elevation and windage components appear to be in functional condition. The aperture eyepiece is intact.
