Description
This lot features a collection of 200 rounds of vintage Winchester Super Speed .22 Long Rifle rimfire ammunition, comprised of four individual boxes of 50 rounds each. The cartridges are housed in their original red, white, and yellow cardboard packaging, which is prominently marked Winchester Trade Mark, Super Speed, 22 Long Rifle, and 50 Long Range Rim Fire Cartridges. Additional text on the boxes identifies the contents as having Staynless priming and Kopperklad copper-plated bullets, manufactured in the U.S.A. The end flaps are printed with the catalog designations K 2208 R and SS 22 LB. Internal inspection reveals two variations of headstamps among the cartridges: a stylized diamond containing the letter W and the word Super, and a simpler capital letter H. The cartridges consist of brass cases fitted with copper-plated lead bullets designed for long-range performance.
Condition report:
The ammunition is in aged condition, with the brass cases showing varying degrees of tarnish and the copper-plated lead bullets exhibiting notable white oxidation. The outer cardboard boxes show significant wear consistent with age, including frayed edges, surface staining, and some tearing to the end flap hinges. While the cartridges appear physically intact, their functional reliability for firing cannot be determined or guaranteed due to their age.
