Description
This lot comprises 39 rounds of Winchester brand .22 Short caliber rim fire ammunition featuring Lesmok semi-smokeless powder. The cartridges are constructed with copper casings and lead projectiles, each featuring the characteristic sunken H headstamp consistent with Winchester manufacture. These rounds are contained within an original two-piece cardboard box consisting of a brown base and a fitted lid. The lid displays a green top label with black text and a central illustration of a .22 Short cartridge, with verbatim markings including 50 WINCHESTER TRADE MARK .22 SHORT STETSON’S PATENT Oct. 31st, 1871 RIM FIRE and LESMOK RIFLE CARTRIDGES MADE IN U. S. A. along with the WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO., NEW HAVEN, CONN., U. S. A. manufacturer address. The side labels are yellow with black text printed over a large red W logo and specify .22 SHORT RIM FIRE LESMOK RIFLE CARTRIDGES WINCHESTER MAKE. The bottom of the box retains a partial yellow guarantee label with the handwritten notation 2538 7-20. The interior includes a small wad of white cotton packing material used to cushion the 39 rounds. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The two-piece cardboard box is in good condition for its age, showing moderate surface staining, edge fraying, and minor label loss particularly on the bottom yellow guarantee label. The top and side labels remain largely intact and clearly legible with attractive color. The 39 cartridges exhibit a natural patina with tarnish and oxidation present on the copper casings and white lead oxidation on the projectiles consistent with long-term storage. The H headstamps remain sharp and well-defined.
