Description
A lot of 33 rounds of .38 Long Rimfire ammunition contained in a partial, two-piece cardboard box manufactured by the Remington Arms-Union Metallic Cartridge Company. The box is wrapped in a characteristic red, black, and tan plaid pattern and features a green top label prominently displaying the red circular UMC logo and Remington cursive trademark. Verbatim markings on the top label specify 38 LONG R. F., 50 CARTRIDGES, and describe the manufacturer as REMINGTON ARMS-UNION METALLIC CARTRIDGE Co., AMMUNITION & FIREARMS, UNION METALLIC CARTRIDGE WORKS, BRIDGEPORT, CONN., U.S.A. A guarantee label on the bottom of the box lists compatible manufacturers including Remington, Smith & Wesson, Colt, Winchester, Marlin, Savage, and Stevens. The ammunition consists of copper cartridge cases, several of which feature an incised U headstamp, and rounded lead bullets. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The cardboard box is in fair to poor condition, showing significant wear, fraying at the corners, and staining throughout the plaid wrap and labels. The green top label is darkened with age and exhibits scuffing but remains largely legible. The 33 cartridges are in poor condition, exhibiting heavy white oxidation and lead bloom on the bullets. The copper cases show varied levels of tarnish and green verdigris corrosion, with at least one case showing a longitudinal split. The ammunition is sold as a collectible item only and is not intended for use.
