Description
This Smith & Wesson J frame Model 34 Kit Gun is a classic double-action revolver chambered in .22 Long Rifle, built on the versatile J-frame with a five-screw design. The firearm features a 6 inch barrel equipped with a pinned front ramp sight and an adjustable rear target sight. The metal surfaces exhibit a deep blued finish that has developed a distinctive plum or brownish patina on the frame and cylinder, characteristic of early post-war production. It is fitted with checkered walnut service grips featuring the iconic diamond pattern around the grip screw and silver-colored S&W medallions. The revolver is accompanied by a vintage-style tooled brown leather holster decorated with floral patterns and a brass snap closure. Key markings include “SMITH & WESSON” on the left side of the barrel and “.22 LONG RIFLE CTG” on the right. The right side of the frame features the S&W trade mark and the four-line address: “MADE IN U.S.A. / MARCAS REGISTRADAS / SMITH & WESSON / SPRINGFIELD, MASS.” The serial number K 5634 is clearly stamped on the butt, and the assembly number 8597 is found on the yoke and the rear face of the cylinder. Condition report:
The revolver is in good condition, retaining much of its original blued finish which has transitioned to a notable plum patina across the frame and cylinder. There is visible thinning and wear at the muzzle and on the high points of the frame, along with scattered scratches and surface marks, particularly on the right side above the trigger guard. The checkered walnut grips show smoothing and typical wear from use but remain solid without cracks. The action appears to function correctly in both single and double action, with the cylinder timing and lockup feeling secure. The bore is bright with sharp, well-defined rifling. The leather holster shows heavy wear, darkening, and age-related cracking but remains functional.
