Description
This lot consists of a vintage two-piece cardboard box from the Peters Cartridge Company containing 23 rounds of .22 Long Rifle rimfire ammunition. The box exhibits the characteristic green, red, and yellow color scheme of early Peters packaging from the Cincinnati production era prior to 1934. Prominent markings on the top include the Peters logo above 50 .22 LONG RIFLE R.F. RIFLE CARTRIDGES and SEMI-SMOKELESS POWDER, while the manufacturer is listed as THE PETERS CARTRIDGE CO. CINCINNATI, O. U.S.A. The end panels are marked with a large red P and the text PETERS .22 L. RIFLE RIM-FIRE Semi-Smokeless. On the underside, the box highlights the use of King’s Semi-Smokeless Powder and describes a specialized lubricant used on the bullets to ensure accuracy and preserve the rifle barrel. Each cartridge features a lead bullet and a copper case with a P headstamp.
Condition report:
The ammunition is in poor condition, exhibiting heavy green oxidation and verdigris on the casings and significant white lead oxidation on the bullets. The cartridges appear to be live rounds. The two-piece cardboard box is in heavily worn condition, showing significant edge fraying, heavy soiling, and substantial paper loss on one side panel.
