Description
This Iver Johnson Champion is a single-shot break-action shotgun chambered for 20 gauge. It features a 28-inch barrel with a fixed choke bore and a single brass bead front sight, utilizing a design where the barrel and lug are forged as a single piece. The action is operated by a top-lever release with an external hammer. The firearm is fitted with a two-piece smooth wood stock and forend, and it should be noted that the stock displays a visible crack along with various handling marks and scratches. The furniture is capped with a hard rubber buttplate featuring the Iver Johnson owl logo. Key markings on the left side of the receiver read IVER JOHNSON’S ARMS & CYCLE WORKS FITCHBURG MASS U.S.A. CHAMPION while the top of the barrel is marked – 20 GAUGE CHOKE BORE BARREL AND LUG FORGED IN ONE – PAT’D JUNE 15 15 PAT’S PENDING. The serial number 73076 C is clearly stamped on the lower tang behind the trigger guard. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The metal components exhibit a worn finish with significant and widespread surface oxidation and pitting across the receiver and the full length of the barrel. The bore condition was not fully inspected but is expected to show wear consistent with the exterior. The action appears to function correctly with a secure lock-up, though the firearm has not been live-fire tested. The wood stock and forend show heavy signs of use, including a notable crack in the buttstock and numerous deep scratches and dings. The hard rubber buttplate is intact with some minor wear to the edges.
