Description
This is a single-shot, break-action shotgun manufactured by the W.H. Davenport Fire Arms Co. featuring a 30 inch barrel and an external hammer. The firearm utilizes a side-lever release mechanism located on the right side of the receiver, though the external lever arm is currently missing. The long barrel is topped with a single brass bead front sight. The furniture comprises a smooth wood forend and a checkered wood buttstock, which has been equipped with an aftermarket brown Uncle Mikes slip-on rubber recoil pad. Key markings include the manufacturer and location roll-stamped on the top of the chamber as THE W. H. DAVENPORT FIRE ARMS CO. NORWICH, CONN. U.S.A. while the left side of the receiver displays the patent dates DEC. 15, 91. FEB. 11, 96. AUG. 11, 96. MAY 27, 02. The serial number 324 is stamped on the lower tang behind the trigger guard. Condition report:
The metal surfaces show a worn, mottled brown and gray patina throughout, with significant thinning of the original finish and areas of surface oxidation and light pitting. The wood furniture exhibits various scratches, dings, and handling marks consistent with honest age and use, though the checkering on the wrist remains visible. The bore is dark and exhibits pitting throughout. The action is currently incomplete as the side lever arm is missing, which prevents standard operation of the break-action mechanism, and we have not function-tested this firearm.
